Hi there. Before you and I go any further, I should mention that Android Design Patterns: Interaction Design Solutions for Developers is a design book. Not a code book. My book assumes you have some basic mastery of the Android code, and is also for people that do not write code but work with people who do: Interaction, UX and Visual Designers, User Researchers, Product Managers and Business People.
I wrote my book for the entire team to help everyone do their best work and to create something amazing. It is a comprehensive 400+ page book of user experience (UX) design patterns and cutting-edge ideas that helps you build the right thing, and do it faster that you ever thought possible. My book will help you confidently create great experiences for your customers and have a blast doing what you love.
It’s NOT a guide on how to code Android. If you are still learning to code and that’s the focus for you, obviously you need a different book — there are lots of good ones out there. (Check out the Google+ Community if you need great recommendations.)
Downloadable mini-apps with source code and detailed code walk-throughs I provide below are a BONUS. These are provided for *experimental patterns only* as I mentioned in the introduction, so I cover only the interesting code stuff for patterns and experiences that are a little “out there”. I am convinced that they will be part of the “next mobile UX thing”, and if you think you are ready, here are a few of my Smashing Magazine articles with the detailed code and downloadable mini-apps for the experimental patterns mentioned in the book. If you want to try out the pattern, I even provide detailed instructions for installing the readymade mini-apps on your device:
